Carina and Carina Heights plumbers, close by in Morningside

Carina has changed a lot over the years, and these days more than a third of homes are townhouses. That's great for neighbours, but it does make plumbing a bit more of a team sport. When a damp patch turns up on a shared wall, the first questions are always where it's coming from and whose pipe it is. We can help you answer both, and we're only a short drive away in Morningside.

You'll get a clear arrival window, a plumber who explains what's going on, and a fixed price to approve before any work starts. We respect that it's your home, and we leave it as clean as we found it.

Townhouses, shared pipes and older homes

In a townhouse, a fault inside your own home is generally yours, while shared pipes on common property are usually the body corporate's, so check with your building manager before booking. If water is turning up somewhere it shouldn't, our leak detection team can trace it without opening up more than they need to.

More than a third of Carina homes are townhouses (34.2% at the 2021 Census), nearly three times the Queensland share, so a lot of calls here start with a shared pipe or a meter in a complex. Some history survives too: Council's heritage records describe Flint's Cottage on Lunga Street, built in 1892, as the only nineteenth-century home still standing in Carina.

In the older houses, ageing sewer joints are where tree roots find a way in. Our guide on who is responsible for blocked drains explains how responsibility usually splits.

Water supply in Carina

Carina is supplied by Urban Utilities. South East Queensland water is classed as hard to moderately hard, which Urban Utilities notes can cause scaling inside hot water systems and kettles.

The property owner is responsible for the pipes on their side of the water meter and sewer connection point, and Urban Utilities for the meter and everything beyond it. In a unit complex that connection point is usually on common property, and Urban Utilities says complexes may have a meter for each unit, either near the unit or in a shared meter cabinet. Find yours before you need it. A leak in the street or footpath goes to Urban Utilities on 13 23 64 (24/7); a meter that keeps ticking over when nothing is running points to a hidden leak on your side, which our leak detection team can find.

Carina plumbing questions

There's a damp patch on the wall we share with next door. What should we do? +

Let your neighbour and building manager know, then get the leak traced before anyone starts guessing whose it is. We'll find the source, fix what's yours, and explain what we found clearly so everyone's on the same page.

Do you cover Carina Heights as well as Carina? +

Yes, both, along with Carindale, Camp Hill and Cannon Hill. We're only a short drive away in Morningside.

Can a hidden leak be found without opening up the walls? +

Usually we can narrow it down a long way first with proper leak detection gear, so if anything does need opening up, it's as little as possible. We'll always explain what's involved before we start.

Are plumbing leaks covered by insurance? +

It depends on your policy, and insurers often treat the damage and the leaking pipe differently. Our guide, are plumbing leaks covered by insurance, covers what to ask your insurer.
