Bulimba is a real mix, with houses, townhouses and apartments (39.5% of homes were flats or apartments at the 2021 Census). The old streets go back a long way: Council's heritage records describe Crouch Cottage on Oxford Street, built around 1888 for a fishing family who kept it for 102 years, and 1920s bungalows like Greenock on Bulimba Street.

Bulimba is supplied by Urban Utilities. South East Queensland water is classed as hard to moderately hard, which Urban Utilities notes can cause scaling inside hot water systems and kettles.

The property owner is responsible for the pipes on their side of the water meter and sewer connection point, and Urban Utilities for the meter and everything beyond it. In a unit complex that connection point is usually on common property, and Urban Utilities says complexes may have a meter for each unit, either near the unit or in a shared meter cabinet.
